LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech Red Raiders softball have wasted no time proving they belong among the nation’s elite, storming through the early portion of the 2026 season with dominant performances on both sides of the field.
Coming off a historic 2025 campaign that saw the program capture a Big 12 title and make a deep postseason run, expectations were sky-high entering this year. So far, the Red Raiders have done nothing but exceed them.
A Red-Hot Start
Texas Tech has jumped out to an impressive 25–1 overall record and a perfect 3–0 mark in Big 12 play, quickly establishing itself as one of the top teams in the country.
The Red Raiders’ early-season dominance has included multiple run-rule victories and statement wins over ranked opponents, showcasing both their offensive firepower and elite pitching depth.
One of the most eye-catching performances came in a 24–0 rout of Abilene Christian, a game that highlighted just how explosive this lineup can be.
Offensive Firepower Leading the Way
At the plate, Texas Tech has been nothing short of dangerous. Several players are posting standout numbers, including:
- Kaitlyn Terry, hitting well above .500 with elite on-base and slugging numbers
- Mihyia Davis and Lagi Quiroga, providing consistent production and power
- A deep lineup where nearly every hitter is capable of driving in runs
The Red Raiders’ ability to generate runs in bunches has made them one of the most feared offenses in college softball, regularly putting games out of reach early.
Dominance in the Circle
While the offense grabs headlines, the pitching staff has been just as impressive.
Led by star pitcher NiJaree Canady, Texas Tech has consistently shut down opposing lineups. Canady, one of the most recognized names in college softball, has delivered dominant outings, including key performances against top-tier competition.
The pitching staff’s ability to limit runs — combined with strong defensive play — has allowed the Red Raiders to control games from start to finish.
Living Up to the No. 1 Ranking
Texas Tech entered the season as a national title contender and Big 12 favorite, earning widespread recognition in preseason polls.
Through the first stretch of the season, the Red Raiders have validated that ranking, showing they have the talent, depth, and experience to compete for a national championship.
Building Momentum Toward the Postseason
With conference play underway, the focus now shifts to maintaining consistency against tougher Big 12 competition. If early results are any indication, Texas Tech is well-positioned to make another deep postseason run.
Beyond the field, excitement around the program continues to grow, with sellout crowds and major facility upgrades reflecting the rising profile of Texas Tech softball.
