LUBBOCK, Texas — The Texas Tech Red Raiders have taken a significant leap in the latest College Football Playoff (CFP) rankings, ascending to No. 4 — the highest placement in program history.
The rise comes after a dominant end to the regular season, capped by a 49-0 victory over West Virginia Mountaineers — the worst loss suffered by the Mountaineers in program history. On3+1 With that win, Texas Tech closed the regular season 11–1 and secured a spot in the conference championship game.
As a result of the move into the top four, the Red Raiders are now projected to receive a first-round bye if the playoffs began today — a major advantage under the expanded playoff format.
The timing could not be better: Texas Tech is set to face BYU Cougars in the Big 12 Championship Game. A win there would likely cement their top-four seed and their first playoff berth in school history.
For the Red Raiders and their fans in Lubbock, the climb to No. 4 represents a milestone — a payoff for consistent performance all season long and a fresh spotlight on Texas Tech as a legitimate national contender.
