The Texas Tech Red Raiders softball team achieved a historic milestone in 2025 by securing both their first-ever Big 12 regular season and tournament championships.

Under the leadership of first-year head coach Gerry Glasco, the Red Raiders dominated the conference with a 20–4 record, surpassing their previous best of 13 league wins set in 2012. This performance earned them the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament .

A pivotal figure in their success was junior pitcher NiJaree Canady, who transferred from Stanford and signed a groundbreaking $1 million NIL deal—the largest ever for a college softball player. Canady led the nation with a 0.89 ERA and was instrumental in the postseason, pitching in every tournament game without allowing a single run.

In the Big 12 Tournament, Texas Tech showcased their prowess by defeating Baylor 4–0 in the quarterfinals, overwhelming Arizona State 18–0 in the semifinals—a game that set a new Big 12 Championship record for runs—and clinching the title with a 4–0 victory over Arizona in the final.

This remarkable season earned the Red Raiders a No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament, marking their first appearance since 2019. They are set to host regional games in Lubbock, facing Brown in the opening round, with Washington and Mississippi State also in their regional bracket.

The 2025 season stands as a landmark year for Texas Tech softball, highlighting the impact of strategic leadership, exceptional talent, and a cohesive team effort.
